James Griffiths is Asia correspondent and bureau chief for The Globe and Mail. He is the author of two books: The Great Firewall of China: How to build and control an alternative version of the internet and Speak Not: Empire, identity and the politics of language.

Before joining The Globe in 2021, James was a senior producer for CNN International. He has reported from across Asia, including Hong Kong, China, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Qatar, and the Korean Peninsula.

From Ynys Môn, Cymru, James lives in Hong Kong.

James is a confident public speaker who enjoys doing radio, podcasts, TV, and live events. He has appeared on CNN, the BBC, ABC, CTV, and NPR, and taken part in events at the Hong Kong International Literary Festival, Frontline Club, and Chatham House.
